Mainstage Adjudicator: Christopher Duthie
Christopher Duthie is an actor, playwright, theatre creator and educator. As an actor, he has performed with One Yellow Rabbit, Ghost River Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Quest Theatre, and The Shakespeare Company among others. His play n00b was produced by Vertigo Theatre’s Y-Stage Series and toured to Young People’s Theatre in Toronto, the Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, and The Arts Station in Fernie. He co-created Of Fighting Age with Col Cseke and David van Belle for Verb Theatre, Glenbow Museum, and the 2014 High Performance Rodeo (Calgary Critter Award – Best Creative Concept). His 10-minute play Under the Overpass won the Audience Choice Award at the 2013 InspiraTO Festival, and was made into a short film produced by A Long Story Short Film. His most recent play A Dinner Party has been workshopped at Factory Theatre, and read publicly at Theatre Calgary’s TC OUT LOUD Series. As an educator, he teaches and facilitates classes with Calgary Young People’s Theatre, the Pumphouse Theatres and Inside Out Theatre. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and a BFA in Drama from the University of Calgary.
Mainstage Technical Adjudicator: Jessie Paynter
Jessie is a technical director, lighting designer, and video designer who works in both theatre and dance. Recent credits include This Little Piggie (HPR 2019) The Penelopiad, Wild Abandon, Hamlet, Exploder (Western Canada High), Goosebumps the Musical (Storybook Theatre) School for Husbands – School for Wives, Robin Hood (Red Deer College), Extremophiles (Downstage), Ride (Lunchbox Theatre), Romeo and Juliet, The Outsiders,(West Island College), Moving Stories (The National Arts Centre).
Jessie is currently the Production Manager of Downstage, and the Technical Manager of the Calgary International Film Festival.
She has also worked in a technical capacity for companies such as the National Music Centre (Calgary, AB) National Arts Centre (Ottawa, ON) Project X Theatre (Kamloops, BC) Imago Theatre (Montreal, QC) Rising Tide Theatre (Trinity, NFL) and Western Canada Theatre (Kamloops, BC).
Jessie is a graduate of the Stagecraft program at Douglas College and the Production program at the National Theatre School of Canada.
Studio Adjudicator: Nathan Pronyshyn
Nathan has worked professionally as an actor, director and producer for the past 16 years. He served as the Artistic Producer of Y Stage at Vertigo Theatre from 2007-2017 where he programmed more than 50 professional productions from around the world. As a freelance actor/director he has worked across Canada for companies such as Theatre Calgary, ATP, Vertigo Theatre, Verb Theatre, Ground Zero Theatre, Quest Theatre, Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Sidemart Theatrical Grocery and Sabooge. Nathan received the Duval Lang Award for contribution to TYA in Calgary and has been nominated for Betty Mitchell and CRITTER awards for his work as an actor and director. Nathan is currently doing his MFA at the University of Calgary’s School of Creative and Performing Arts.
